Preparation
Proper preparation will often encompass more time and labor than the actual painting. Up to 70% of the work is in preparing
the surface. Next to using good quality paints and primers, skilled preparation is the most important painting technique a painter
has to offer.
Inadequate preparation can only offer inadequate finishes, leaving you with the same effects if not adding highlights
to unseen damage.
The amount of preparation needed depends on a couple of factors:
Ø If the surface is in relatively good condition,
or shows signs of severe wear
Ø If it has been previously painted or has never been painted.
Many of the basic interior/exterior steps in preparation are relevant to all situations, whether in good shape or in need of extensive repair. We here at Concord Custom Painting utilize common sense and a few tricks we have picked up over the years to make sure we get the best result possible.
In our experience it is easier to be diligent in our preparation of any property, troubleshooting any potential problems, than to rush through in an attempt to save time.
This is why covering all flooring(interior) and setting up a staging area (interior/exterior), giving us sure protection, will always be our first step on any job.
When painting occupied as opposed to unoccupied properties, or even new construction, the painting technique will change. Brushing and rolling will need different preparation than when using an airless sprayer. On the following pages(walls/ceilings, trim/doors and exterior) we give some examples of the steps we take in preparing to paint.
"We look forward to becoming your painting contractor."
