Enamel paints can be considered in a class of their own.
Originally these where oil/alkyd binders mixed with added varnish resins
to create a harder finish resistant to moisture. They, in the realm on house paints, where used primarily on trim, doors and cabinets
to assist in giving a premier finish that could withstand higher abuse.
Some now produced in a water base, the term ENAMEL is used
in reference to a paint with a high sheen and hard finish, but enamels are also marketed in flat versions as well
One of the more important reasons to use an enamel paint, besides their added strength in binders, is their compilations of solvents and additives which allow them to stay wet longer and level out, leaving little to no brush marks, which adds a premeir finish to cabinets and furniture.
